Potato Dextrose Agar EP/USP/BAM is formulated for the growth and enumeration of yeasts and molds in food, pharmaceutical and microbiology laboratories. It contains potato infusion, dextrose and agar, providing a nutrient-rich environment that supports fungal growth. The medium complies with EP, USP and BAM regulatory methods.
Potato Dextrose Agar EP/USP/BAM (catalogue number 1022) is a general-purpose dehydrated culture medium used for cultivating and enumerating yeasts and molds. It is widely applicable in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and veterinary microbiology. The formulation contains potato infusion (or equivalent potato starch), dextrose as a fermentable carbohydrate source, and agar as a solidifying agent. The medium supports a wide variety of fungal species, including yeasts such as Candida spp. and Saccharomyces spp., and molds such as Aspergillus and Penicillium.
Advantages
- Complies with EP, USP and BAM regulatory standards.
- Supports abundant growth and sporulation of yeasts and molds.
- Suitable for food, pharmaceutical and industrial microbiological testing.
- Easy preparation: dissolve, autoclave and pour plates.
- Reliable performance for fungal enumeration.
Instructions for use
Suspend 39 g of dehydrated medium in 1 liter of distilled water. Mix and heat to boiling until fully dissolved. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45–50°C and pour into sterile Petri dishes. For selective fungal isolation, the medium may be acidified after autoclaving by aseptic addition of sterile acid solution. Incubate yeasts at 25–30°C for 18–48 hours and molds at 20–25°C for 5–7 days.
